Who Do You Say I Am?

Table talk: People believe many different things about Jesus; he wants to know what you believe about Him
Read Luke 9:18-20

18 Now it happened that as he was praying alone, the disciples were with him. And he asked them, “Who do the crowds say that I am?” 19 And they answered, “John the Baptist. But others say, Elijah, and others, that one of the prophets of old has risen.” 20 Then he said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” And Peter answered, “The Christ of God.”

Say: During Jesus' Earthly ministry, people had different ideas about who he was, how he had such power and authority, and from where he came. Things aren't much different in our world today. Some people think Jesus was a great teacher, some think he was crazy, and some believe, like Peter, he is the son of God, the savior of the world. Jesus wanted to know what Peter believed in his heart about who he was. Jesus cares about who you say he is in your heart, too.

Tell: Each person can tell which description of Jesus resonates with them the most: Healer, Savior, Shepherd, Comforter, etc.

Ask: Who is someone in your life that helped you decide to follow Jesus?
Is there anyone in your life that you can help point towards Jesus right now?
How does your belief that Jesus is the son of God affect how you live today?

Pray: Jesus, thank you for telling us exactly who you are. Thank you for inviting us into your Kingdom and your family. We pray for our friends and neighbors that don't yet believe you are the son of God, that they would see the good news about you.

Ministry activity for the week: Say Thank You
Send a thank-you note, text, or make a phone call to someone who has helped you see who Jesus is. Tell them what their care for you and obedience to God has meant to you in your life.
