The Unexpected Dinner Guest

March 15, 2020 Series: Special Messages

Topic: Luke Passage: Luke 7:36–50

Dinners with family and friends can be the loudest and most fun part of your day. It is around the table where you can hear about your kids’ days, how work was for your spouse, or even catch up with an old friend. In our day, as in the first century, dinners can also take a dramatic turn, especially with the arrival of an unexpected guest. In Luke 7, we get to see a religious leader invite Jesus over for a meal. Everything seemed to be normal until an uninvited guest shows up and changed the dynamic and topic of the entire room. Jesus decides to use this as a teachable moment that will cause everyone in the room to ask the same question of themselves. Today, we get to be a fly on the wall in that room and see what happened, and maybe find ourselves asking ourselves the same question they did 2000 years ago.
