A Prayer for Us

From 2001-2009 I had the privilege of officiating nearly 70 wedding ceremonies, including a couple from our church. In nearly half of those weddings I challenged couples to live out the prayer that Jesus prays for all of his followers – that they would be united, living in harmony. Before marriage, the idea of unity and harmony sound easy enough, but the reality is, asking men and women to have unity of thought and practice can be a challenge!!! Just as unity, harmony, and togetherness are sometimes difficult to accomplish in a marriage, they can be a challenge in the local church. We can take comfort in knowing that Christ prays for us as to have the same kind of relationship with one another that He and the Father have! Jesus and His heavenly father were united in purpose – that all may know Him. May we be united in the same purpose.
